This month, see what all the fuss is about peanut butter and jelly, fry up some cheeseballs and dive into a deep dish pizza.
Sure, a lot of the foods connected to these events are definitely more American, and are for foods we don't typically eat in Australia, but that's what makes them even more fun!
Packed with more than just flavour, sourdough bread has more vitamins, minerals and antioxidants than many other breads and they make the best sandwiches! We're pretty sure it's a fact that they become significantly less boring when you use it.
So, don't be a fool, eat a sourdough sandwich today!
(Not a sandwich person? That's cool. It also makes ah-may-zing avocado toast!)
We really love how specific some of these food events are, and this one is no exception. But it applies to those of you in offices, too! Did you think those apples and bananas in your office fruit bowl just grew on the fake office plants? Of course not! Someone had to take the time to order them, and at EatFirst we're here to save them time.
Alongside our regular catering offering, we also have our office pantry service, that can get you fresh fruit, milk, coffee and snacks delivered to your office on a regular basis with a standing, set-and-forget order.
Who says this combination can only be eaten as a sandwich? Try the oh-so-indulgent peanut butter and jelly cupcakes from Vanilla Cupcakery. They're a chocolate cupcake that's topped with creamy peanut better and a dollop of strawberry jam. Oh, and then sprinkled with some crushed peanuts of course!
If you do want it in a sandwich though, Schmuck's Bagels in Melbourne offers blueberry bagels spread with peanut butter and raspberry jelly. Or, pick up some peanut butter, sweet spreads and bread from our office pantry for some easy DIY PB&Js!
We love a good excuse to eat a sweet dessert. Especially when chocolate is involved!
Alright, we know Vitamin C itself isn't a food, but there are plenty of fruits and vegetables that are packed with it. Plus, with National Chocolate Mousse Day, National Cheese Fondue Day and National Cheeseball Day all occurring this month, a hit of fresh fruit will be a nice change from all the indulging we'll be doing this month.
Consider getting a fresh fruit platter, some colourful fruit skewers or even a fresh whole fruit order on hand for today.
Well, isn't April off to a nice healthy start!
Wait, did someone just say carrot cake?
No, no that was on 3 February!
Today's all about keeping things healthy. Toss them into a stir fry, dip them into hummus or just munch on these crunchy veggies for a nice hit of vitamins and fibre.
Who doesn't love the classic combination of ham and cheese? Stuff it right into some chicken, and you've got yourself a chicken Cordon Bleu!
Everyone loves an excuse to have something sweet, and there's just something perfectly indulgent about caramel.
Whether you're treating your team to a platter of sweet treats with caramel slices and tarts, or keeping things a bit lighter, like snacking on caramel popcorn from the office pantry, there's plenty of ways to make today count.
Arguably much more fun than New Year's Eve, this day surprisingly has an interesting history behind it! It's the day before the sale of alcohol once again became legal in the United States during Prohibition, back in 1933.
So grab a beer and say cheers to that!
Crunchy taco day is so March. And sometimes waiting until Cinco de Mayo is just too long. Luckily, there's a day to get a Mexican fix that's perfectly situated between the two.
There's plenty of places around to easily get your hands on a burrito for lunch, including chains like or one-off catering companies like Pablo's Kitchen.
Here's where to order:
We've been indulging a bit the last few days, haven't we? Time to even it out! Host a healthy breakfast for the crowd with some acai bowls or smoothies, like the ones you can get at Blahnik or Bowls Baby in Melbourne.
Still craving caramel? Us too.
Opt for a lighter sweet snack though, with some caramel popcorn! Head over to our office pantry marketplace to stock up.
What follows Christmas Eve? Christmas of course! So it's only natural that the day following New Beer's Eve is National Beer Day.
If you didn't get your fill yesterday, or still have a few different beers you'd like to try, grab your glass because today's the perfect chance.
We know Easter isn't an offical food event, but what better excuse to chow down on chocolate and hot cross buns? They're selling like hot cakes this year, especially with so many vegan and gluten-free options so everyone can enjoy!
Move over cronuts. We're all over the cinnamon crescent. A beautiful blend of croissants and cinnamon buns (sans icing, unfortunately!), these moreish morsels make a great addition to any morning or afternoon tea or just had as part of a simple breakfast with a cup of tea of coffee.
Craving something savoury after all the hot cross buns and Easter chocolate? Say cheese, please! And make it melty. Grab some fresh vegetables or a dense bread (like a sourdough or French baguette) and get dipping!
Now, we're not condoning eating meals at your desk instead of taking a break, but we do love the idea of having a delicious, nutritious breakfast at work! Treat the team to a breakfast that's easy to eat at their desks, or have a break in the morning and meet in the kitchen for a quick brekkie and cuppa.
Definitely an acquired taste, liquorice is very much a candy that divides. Whether you love it, or hate it, today's the day to celebrate it. So if you're in the love camp, stock up your pantry with these sweets and have at it!
While this may be an American day, named after what Americans call a warm cheese sandwich, that doesn't mean us Aussies can't chow down on a simple-yet-classic cheese toastie today! It's perfect as a light lunch or as quartered as part of a warm morning or afternoon tea.
Sort of like an apple crumble, but with peaches (and even better when served with a dollop of vanilla ice cream!), it's a comforting dessert that's perfect for sharing, and best when home-made!
A Thursday sounds like a pretty good day to us to make lunch count! Round up the team and head out to lunch or order in something delicious. Just make sure there's no one eating at their desk or alone today!
Savoury breakfasts don't get much more indulgent than when they're covered in creamy hollandaise sauce, do they? Opt for the classic eggs benedict, like offered by Melbourne's Blahnik, or go all out. Perth's Croff Bakehouse takes the breakfast sandwich to a whole new level with a bacon and egg benedict croissant.
Now, there's a few interpretations of what type of cheeseballs this day is referring to, but that's what makes it more fun! We think anything cheesy and spherical should most definitely count today.
See, the options are pretty much endless!
There's something incredibly nostalgic about animal crackers, isn't there?
We'll let you in on a secret. They're just as tasty as an adult as they were as a kid! Stock up on some for your office today for the perfect snack to go with your morning coffee.
(If you have leftover Easter bunny shaped cookies, they'll do!)
Dare we say bananas are the perfect fruit? They're the ideal serving size. They don't require any cutlery. You don't need access to water to clean them. They taste pretty much like candy...
No wonder there's a whole day dedicated to them!
Whether you prefer eating them plain, sliced up and mixed into a yogurt parfait, or cooked into a warm slice of banana bread, go ahead! Today's the day.
Spread on bread, mixed into a stir fry or even roasted. Garlic is just plain great.
Have you tried toum? There should be a whole day dedicated just to the Lebanese garlic sauce that we would probably eat by the spoonful if we wouldn't be judged for it!
We don't hide the fact that we love a cocktail here at EatFirst. And one that gets little recognition is the amaretto sour. But not today! It's sweet, it's sour, it's a little bit nutty, and it's delightful!
National Amaretto Day may be a Wednesday in 2023, but we're not ones to judge! We can help you with all the ingredients to shake up some of these today.
While technically this one is dedicated to the Japanese rice ball (also called onigiri), if those aren't your thing we won't judge you for using today as an excuse to gobble up all the arancini you can!
Who doesn't love chips? And who doesn't love cheese? Put them together and you've got a match made in heaven.
They're the perfect overboard sidedish for any greasy burger or fried chicken meal. But hey, may as well go all in sometimes!
Throw some fruit into a cake and suddenly it's healthy, right?
No?
We like our original idea better.
Coffee gets all the glory, but tea is just as wonderful! Of course it deserves a day. It's warm, soothing, can have caffeine to keep you alert or has herbs that can help you sleep. It's pretty much magical.
Consider having a tea tasting with various brews from around the world on a day like this, or go all out and bring someone into your workplace who can read tea leaves for anyone who's interested!
An incredibly specific day, but if we have to eat chocolate covered cashews today we will!
(We're sorry chocolate covered peanuts and almonds, we still love you!)
Get everyone involved and make a jelly bean jar where the whole team can guess how many are in there for a prize! (Either the jar and its contents or a voucher of some sort).
We may have celebrated New Beer's Eve and National Beer Day earlier in the month, but we're thirsty again!
And being about half-way through the year to Oktoberfest sounds like a pretty good excuse to have a German beer or two.
Now, we're not here to argue whether a pig in a blanket is a sausage wrapped in a piece of bacon or wrapped in pastry. We are here to call a truce and simply suggest we eat both today.
Strawberry cheesecake is so 2022... Whether it's for the end-of-month birthday cakes or you're just looking for an excuse to have something decadent give cherry a go!
Also not really a food-related, but have you tried an Anzac biscuit? They're so delicious, easy to make, and last. So if you're buying a box of them for the office, they should stay fresh as they don't have any eggs in them. Will they last in your office though? Probably not. These treats will be gobbled up in no time.
Tip: Check out Wilton's Cookies. They're baked fresh, and can be delivered anywhere in Australia!
Move over banana bread.
Very similar in texture, healthiness and, surprisingly, taste, zucchini bread is a whole other way to pack in some extra nutrients while still having a sweet treat. Like banana bread though, there is quite a bit of sugar, so it's definitely not equal to having a serving of plain veggies!
Often passed for chips or popcorn, the pretzel really does deserve to be in your office snack rotation.
They're baked, rather than fried, which makes them lower in fat than chips, and as long as you don't opt for a chocolate-covered variety or dip them into anything, they don't have too much extra sugar. They can be salty though! So if you're watching your sodium levels, maybe give pretzels a skip.
According to OzHarvest a HUGE one-third of all food produced is lost or wasted. And that can cause a huge toll on landfills and the economy.
That's why we love individually portioned lunches. (When they're made with sustainable materials, of course!) You know you'll only get the exact number you need, and can order for just who is coming to the table. Our Oh My Lunch product makes this super easy for office managers too. It leaves it up to the employee to note whether they're coming to the office that day and choose what they want.
This way, the staff member gets to eat what they want, and the company doesn't have to pay for (and waste) food for employees that may not show up.
Now, we know this isn't the usual lunch food, but if you're finishing April strong and you're feeling schmancy, then YOLO; get some prime rib! Or treat everyone to an end-of-month meal. They deserve it!
Us Australians love a savoury pie. But every meal needs dessert, right? Go on, have a slice of warm blueberry pie. Maybe with some vanilla ice cream on the side.
More of a treat than fresh grapes, but not nearly as unhealthy as lollies, raisins are not just delicious, but surprisingly versatile. Cover them in yogurt, mix them into your granola, or, our favourite, cook them into oatmeal cookies.
Perfectly timed with National Raisin Day! Treat everyone to freshly baked oatmeal cookies today. They're delicious, comforting and best served warm with some coffee or milk.
Order in a round of perfectly sweet boba for the office, because it's National Bubble Tea Day! Whether they like their tea milky or fruity, there's so many options!
If you know one day's order just won't be enough, consider ordering a few cases because it comes in cans now! Better Food Distribution Co offers milk tea, brown sugar, peach or mango.
