A tray of gluten-free hot cross buns.

Where to get the Easter treats that the whole team can enjoy

If you ask just about any Australian what the go-to menu item is for Easter, they'll probably say hot cross buns.

Perfectly sweet-but-not-too-sweet, fluffy and best served warm, these little buns are full absolute heaven for many... except they can be hellish for some: those who can't tolerate gluten.

But, we're firm believers that no one should ever miss out on delicious food. And hot cross buns at Easter are no exception!

Of course, you can buy them at the supermarket, but they're so much better baked fresh and delivered straight to your workplace. Hassle free!

What flavours do gluten-free hot cross buns come in?

Most caterers only serve up the traditional, fruit hot cross buns in a gluten-free variety.

Workshop Cafe in Melbourne offers a flavour choice for its gluten-free hot cross buns. You can order either traditional fruit-filled or chocolate buns.

Meanwhile, if you're in South Australia, Luxurious Grazing Adelaide also gives you the option of either a traditional fruit bun or chocolate chip flavoured if you can't eat gluten.

Are gluten-free hot cross buns more expensive?

Not always, but they can be. But when it comes you pricing, there's a few things you'll need to keep in mind:

  • Portion sizes can be different: Usually, you won't need as many gluten-free buns as you would wheat-based ones
  • Sizing of the individual buns could be different
  • Gluten free flours can cost more

If you are in the Sydney area and on a tighter budget, The BNK Cafe and Sette Cafe and Catering both charge the same amount for all buns, regardless of whether or not they have gluten.

In Brisbane, Blackout Coffee and Catering charges the same amount per gluten-free bun as it does for its flavoured wheat-based varieties.
